Father's Day
My sister was late again. This is the second family function where I had to not only drive my parents to, but sit and wait alone with them for more than ten seconds before my sister arrived. I personally find it beyond irritating that she can't seem to be on time to a fucking dinner appt. but you gotta believe that she is on time to the bars when it's time to drink with her friends.
Of course my parents don't share this irritation. If she shit on the table they would considered quaint. For some reason she is the daughter who can do no wrong. They both envy her boozy and free wheeling lifestyle and are never dissapproving of stories that, had they come out of my mouth, would have seen me listening to a long speech about responsibility and bad decision. She of course is spared all of this.
While I am glad that she captures all of their attention since it's spares me having to actually be entertaining or interesting at dinner, I do find it irritating that I can be in the middle of a story before she arrives, and if she happens to walk in in the middle of it, both parents will immediately turn their entire attention to her and forget that I was even talking. It's such an in your face transition.
Thank god it's over. I think it's a good while before I have to worry about another family function which is some consolation, in spite of how irritating tonight was.
